#MarchMeetTheMaker Day 3- How I started Today's post is all about how I started my business. This could be a long post so I decides to focus on why and how I started. Although I've always been interested in makeup, and have loved playing about with colour etc, I never considered taking it up as a profession until September 2016. I've always been involved in dancing and done numerous shows over the years, the last one being Rent which was performed at the Picturedrome in Holmfirth. For anyone that's not done a show, you can't really explain the feeling. For me, it's the most exciting, amazing feeling to be on stage doing what I love! So back to September 2016. I'd just had a week off work (my other job) and been performing on stage every night. It was the following Monday morning, when I was walking my dog up the field, feeling sad that the show was over and wondering how I could be more creative in my day to day life. With the best will in the world I could never go into theatre as a professional- I know my limits and 36 was a little late to be going down this route- so I was searching on my phone for ideas- and stumbled upon a makeup artistry course. The areas you can move into in makeup is so vast, and of course includes the theatre! I am a little impulsive, so said to myself I wouldn't book anything till the following January (as it's quite expensive to train and I wanted to make sure it wasn't a knee-jerk reaction to the show being over) but 3 days later... the course was booked!!! I did my course at the North East Makeup Accademy in November 2016 and have never looked back. The training I received was brilliant and also included hair. Since then I've thrown myself in 100%- continuously doing further training, building my clientele and striving each and every day to get better. So.. this is the short (ahem!!) version of how I started. The pictures are of Rent (top) and Flashdance, where I played Gloria at the Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield, also in 2016. Hope you enjoyed todays little insight...Please come back tomorrow, which is 'Favourite to Make' Vic xx
